An original oil on canvas by the renowned Northern artist Margaret Chapman. The painting depicts Anne Tyson's Cottage, Hawkshead, the cottage in which William Wordsworth, poet, lodged while attending Hawkshead Grammar School. Attached to the back are several period newspaper articles relating to the property. Margaret Chapman was born in 1940 and studied at Liverpool college of art alongside John Lennon. While studying at art college and living at nearby Gambier Terrace, she recalled a young Paul McCartney and George Harrison coming in through an upstairs window via a back fire escape to rehearse with her then flatmate John Lennon. The painting measures 24 inches by 18 inches and presented in a plain wood frame. Overall size 28.5 inches x 23.5 inches. Excellent condition. circa 1970
